It’s been SEVEN YEARS since I’ve started modeling. I remember my first paid gig back in 2018, i was a nervous wreck - but in time this hobby became something real. I’ve met some INCREDIBLE humans along this journey, and learned so much about myself as well. If you’re a budding model or a seasoned vet - here are 5 things I’ve learned since being in this game; • • 1. You need FAITH. Alot of it. There will be COUNTLESS times where you will doubt yourself and your abilities. Sometimes when I feel this way, I like to remind myself how far I’ve come, even when things seem bleak. Regardless of how many shoots you’ve been on just think, if you can book one job, you can CERTAINLY book another. • • 2. Be ready to hear NO… ALOT. This industry moves at a mile a minute, things change at the very last second and sometimes they fall through entirely. Know this is not on you, this is just the nature of business. Shrug it off, you’ll get the next one. • • 3. Save your money. Net30’s can turn into Net90’s. One thing I’ve learned is big corps can take a while when it comes to pay. It doesn’t hurt to have an additional account, or another income source in case things get hairy. • • 4. Network, Network, Network. This one I’m still working on admittedly considering I don’t go out much 😂. But who you know is honestly a bit more important than what you know - knowing a couple of “string pullers” isn’t a bad idea. • • 5. Enforce your boundaries. Women mainly go through but as a man who has been harassed on shoots - it’s important to know where your boundaries are and be willing to enforce them. If something doesn’t feel right or makes you uncomfortable, LEAVE. • • 6. ALWAYS KEEP TESTING. I’m also working on this one too 😂. This lesson comes from my agents @ @chosenmodelmgmt. It doesn’t matter how extensive your portfolio is, testing keeps it current and fresh. CD’s want to see what you look like NOW, not 4 years ago • • There’s so much more I could write here, but in an effort to keep it brief I’ll end with this; regardless of what your dreams are or what you want to achieve in this world, you CAN make it happen.
